Dr. Chip Hunter has been a consulting expert for almost 15 years, advising clients on numerous matters.  His case work has included antitrust, intellectual property, class certification, and general damages matters, including consumer fraud class actions.  In competition matters, his experience includes addressing allegations of price fixing, market manipulation, exclusionary conduct and bundling.  He has guided clients in the merger review process, including assisting with second request compliance.  Also, he has participated in the prosecution of, and defense against, applications for preliminary injunctions.

In intellectual property matters, Dr. Hunter has extensive expertise working on performing rights issues.  He assisted one of the nation’s largest performing rights organizations in multiple litigation matters about the determination of reasonable royalty rates.  He also has experience in general intellectual property matters, including the assessment of damages in patent infringement cases.

Dr. Hunter has worked extensively throughout his career on consumer fraud class actions (both in federal and state courts) with damages claims totaling in the billions of dollars, many of which have gone to trial.  He has consulted in assessing the proper but-for world, and also in addressing damages claims based on a number of different damage theories and quantitative models (including conjoint analysis).

Dr. Hunter’s expert support has spanned a wide range of industries, including agricultural co-ops, consumer products, financial markets, equipment leasing, software, mining, music and entertainment, pharmaceuticals, and tobacco.  Dr. Hunter also has experience assisting clients in projects that involve extensive data preparation and analysis.

Prior to joining Coherent Economics, Dr. Hunter’s work supported some of the industry’s top experts at Charles River Associates, Compass Lexecon, and Navigant.  Dr. Hunter received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago, a Master's degree in public affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas, and a B.A. in economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
